ALAIN DECLERCQ

“My point of view was to survey those who do the surveying.”

In his installations, photographs, drawings and films, Alain Declercq explores the structures of power and the forms of oppression they engender. These are themes like security schizophrenia, surveillance and media manipulation. Declercq's aim is to unveil to the public the part of the iceberg that they initially did not see.

To achieve this goal, Declercq often puts himself on the line and takes big risks. He continuously exposes himself by shadowing, infiltrating, investigating and manipulating. His critical and political vision of the world casts doubt on our certainties. He forces the spectator to question not just the truthfulness of the works, but also the dichotomy between true and false.
