Tilman is using form and color as point of departure towards an open artwork functioning as a transmitter of ideas and concerns of intimate or open nature, aims to go beyond the mere formal limitations of a certain abstract aesthetic. In his works the artist questions one’s often pre-conditioned perception of art and the act of seeing in general. By doing this, he hopes to engage the viewer in a dialog with the work itself and its/his surroundings.
