A Moment in Time
Duo exhibition Max Kraanen & Simone Hoang
Galerie Fontana is pleased to present 'A Moment in Time', a duo exhibition featuring the latest works within the ongoing series of Max Kraanen and Simone Hoang. Within their individual practices, both artists remain committed in their collaboration with natures forces to push the potential of photography.
Kraanen returns to the saltwater’s edge to hold onto the blue of the ocean’s night sky. In his series “The Ocean Keeps Calling,” Kraanen surrenders his control of the large format film camera to capture the New Zealand coastline with the least amount of manipulation possible. This means often waiting for long durations between shots in doing so, evoking multiple temporalities within one image.
Hoang’s work emerges from artistic research, where the process is as important as the end result. In this process she investigates and experiments with different techniques to push boundaries of photography. Hoang’s ongoing series “Night Sensitivity” is built on the conceptual foundation of using the night sky as a darkroom, her latest works for this series were made with the help of the night sky in Vietnam. The same deep and unpolluted night sky etched into childhood memories.
Simone Hoang's work has been featured in Photo Basel, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Art Rotterdam, Foam Editions Amsterdam, TIME Brussels, COLOURBOMB (VU Amsterdam) and PAN Amsterdam. Max Kraanen’s work has been exhibited at, Photo Basel, YIA Art Fair Paris, FOAM Lab Amsterdam, PAN Amsterdam and TIME Brussels. The works of both artists are collected by companies and institutions as well by national and international collectors.
The exhibition runs from Thursday 3 September until Saturday 7 November 2020
